PH.D. PROGRAM

Ph.D. Program in Food, Health and Longevity

The Ph.D. Program “Food, Health and Longevity” is characterized by the interdisciplinarity that allows Ph.D. students to gain experience in various fields of research. MIUR accredits the course as an International Ph.D.
It belongs to the two departments of excellence of the University of Piemonte Orientale (UPO): Translational Medicine (DIMET) and Health Sciences Departments.

Course coordinator, Prof.ssa Antonia Follenzi

The two doctoral curricula

  • Curriculum “Food, microbiota, and disease”
This curriculum aims to integrate the role of food and microbiota in the prevention of diseases, quality of life improvement, and longevity promotion.
  • Curriculum “Physiopathology of aging”
As is well known, biological aging processes cause stress and pain to the patient, so it is necessary to delineate the role of markers and pro-aging factors to slow down and/or counteract degenerative diseases that lead to the decline of the individual’s biological activity. With this objective, the curriculum “Pathophysiology of aging” will provide expertise on the molecular and cellular mechanisms that determine the longevity and healthy aging, looking for new therapeutic targets and new hypothetical solutions.
